Text Messages
1. What the program is
A student enrolled in Fruitful Futures can exchange text messages with their counselor. It is a two-way conversational program: the counselor answers what the student sends, and may send reminders about the student’s own sessions, check-ins, and follow-ups on something they asked for. It is a convenience on top of the app, never a replacement for it — anything important is in the app whether or not a text arrives.
It is optional and it is not a condition of any purchase. A family can use Fruitful Futures in full without ever turning it on. It is only available to students who are at least 13 years old; the parent or guardian confirms the student’s age when they turn it on. Message and data rates may apply, message frequency varies, and mobile carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
We do not send marketing or promotional texts on this program, and we do not share or sell mobile numbers or text-message consent data with anyone for marketing purposes.
This program has not started and no message has been sent on it. What is below is not a plan: the consent text is the live document families are asked to sign today, published here before the first message rather than after. A number reaches a counselor only once it has been paired with a confirmation code, and a number nobody has paired reaches no counselor and no conversation at all.
2. How someone opts in
Two separate steps, and the second one is optional.
First, before any counseling happens at all, the student and their parent or guardian each complete their half of a consent and privacy agreement in the Fruitful Futures app. That agreement describes texting but does not turn it on, and a family who never wants texting signs exactly the same document. Every box starts unticked. This is version 2026-09-16.fruitful-futures-v2, and the two halves below are the live text of it — this page reads the same source the app does.
Read these and tick each one. They are the things you should know before you start.
- My counselor is an AI. It is not a person, even though it talks like one.
- What I say in a session is private from my parents. They do not see it or hear it.
- My sessions are written down and kept, so my counselor remembers me next time.
- After each session my counselor writes a short note for my parents about how things are going — not what I said. I get to read it and change it before it goes, and I have a day to do that.
- If I say that someone is in danger right now, my counselor will not keep that private.
- I can skip any question, and I can end a session whenever I want.
- If my parent turns on texting, my counselor can text me and I can text back. Those messages are private from my parents too, and I can reply STOP to any of them to turn texting off.
By signing you are agreeing on your child's behalf and your own.
- I have read part one and I agree to my child using Fruitful Futures.
- I understand my child's counselor is software, not a person, and that Fruitful Futures is not therapy or a mental-health service.
- I understand I will not see what my child says in a session, and that I receive a starting summary and short progress notes instead.
- I agree to sessions being transcribed and kept, and to that content being processed by the providers named in part one.
- I understand what happens if my child describes immediate danger, and that Fruitful Futures is not an emergency service.
- I confirm I am this student's parent or legal guardian, and that they are in grade 6 or above.
Typing your name here is your signature.
Neither of those screens turns texting on, and neither asks for a phone number.
Second, and only if they want it, the parent or guardian switches texting on in the app. That is where they give the student’s mobile number and confirm it with a one-time code. Nothing is ever sent to a number that has not been confirmed that way.
Text messages with your child’s counselor
Off. Your child’s counseling works exactly the same either way — turn this on only if you want it.
- I confirm my child is 13 or older.
- I agree to my child exchanging text messages with their counselor at the number below, and I understand I will not see those messages. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. My child can reply STOP to any message to end it, and I can switch it off here.
Your child’s mobile number — we confirm it with a one-time code before anything else is sent.
3. What the messages look like
- Fruitful Futures: This is your counselor. Your session is tomorrow at 5:00 PM. Reply these texts, HELP for help.
- Fruitful Futures: You mentioned the deadline was Friday. Did you get the draft where you wanted it?
- Fruitful Futures: I looked into that summer program you asked about. I put what I found in the app under Opportunities.
The counselor does not start a conversation between 10:00 PM and 6:00 AM in the student’s local time, and messages it starts are limited to a small number per week.
4. How someone opts out
Each person gets the route that actually exists for them, because the thread is on the student’s phone and the parent may be on a different one. The student replies STOP to any message, which ends the program for that number, or HELP for help. The parent switches texting off in the app, the same place they switched it on. Either ends it. Opting out of texts does not change the counseling itself, which continues in the app.
A parent does not receive copies of the conversation between a student and their counselor, in the same way they do not receive a transcript of a session. Both are deleted twelve months after they happen.
5. What we never do
- We do not send marketing or promotional text messages.
- We do not share or sell mobile numbers, or text-message opt-in and consent data, with anyone for marketing purposes. The only third party that receives a number is the carrier and aggregator we use to deliver the message.
- We do not text a number that a parent or guardian has not given us and confirmed with a code.
- We do not text students under 13.
- We do not make texting a condition of anything. A family can use Fruitful Futures in full and never turn it on.
